THE QUAYLE
49 W 1st Ave.
Denver, CO 80223
Historic charm meets the perfect South Broadway location at The Quayle – a landmark turned social center for Denver’s Baker neighborhood. Once the 1st Avenue Hotel, The Quayle will feature 102-units of affordable – apartments for renters who earn 60 percent of the Area Median Income. The ground floor will include nearly 11,000 square feet of retail and have four new neighborhood-friendly restaurant tenants.
Built by Charles Quayle in 1907, the 1st Avenue Hotel offered single-room occupancy for Denver’s itinerant workers at affordable nightly rates. Zocalo is proud to be a steward of this historic building by restoring it to modern standards and adapting The Quayle to today’s urban worker.
At the time the hotel was built, it was one of the largest buildings in the town of South Denver and the central hub for commerce on the major transportation corridor. Today, the area is an eclectic mix of neighborhood eateries, bookstores, music venues, bars, art galleries, local clothing stores, vintage shops, craft stores and many more retail options.
