On April 9th, we welcomed our newest team members to the Zocalo HQ Training Room for an in-person LEED Principles Training, an important step in reinforcing our commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development. This in-person session served as a meaningful introduction to the principles that guide our approach to sustainable development, construction, and property management. As sustainability continues to be a core pillar of our work, this training helps ensure our team is aligned in both knowledge and application from day one.
This comprehensive 3.5-hour session was designed to build a strong foundation in LEED certification and deepen understanding of how sustainability integrates into every aspect of our work, from development and construction to ongoing property management.
Throughout the training, participants explored key concepts that are central to our mission. The session covered the fundamentals of LEED certification and its broader impact on the built environment, as well as how sustainable practices translate into day-to-day operations across our communities. Attendees also gained insight into how sustainability is thoughtfully incorporated into the design and construction process, ensuring long-term environmental performance. In addition, the training addressed the importance of recognizing and avoiding greenwashing, helping our team maintain integrity and transparency in how we communicate sustainability efforts.
This training reflects a larger commitment: sustainability is not a standalone initiative at Zocalo, but a guiding principle embedded in how we design, build, and operate. As we continue to grow, investments like these ensure we remain focused on what matters most, creating communities that are not only well-designed, but responsibly built for the future.

Denver Becomes World’s 8th LEED Platinum City
As Denver continues to invest in a more sustainable and resilient future, the city has earned one of the highest recognitions in environmental leadership: LEED for Cities Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED is one of the world’s most widely recognized green building and sustainability rating systems. The LEED for Cities framework expands beyond individual buildings to evaluate how cities are improving environmental performance, resilience, infrastructure, transportation, energy efficiency, and overall quality of life for residents.
