This quarter, our Service Team members took another major step forward in their professional development through Zocalo’s in-house EPA Section 608 Certification Course, led by Joey Little, Director of Maintenance & Capital Projects.
This was the fourth time Joey has facilitated the two-day course, and the impact continues to grow. After attending industry expert Mark Cukro’s class earlier this year, Joey fine-tuned his approach — improving pacing, incorporating real-world examples, and creating more engaging discussions. The result? A stronger learning experience and stronger outcomes.
Six team members participated, and several walked away with significant wins — some major, others meaningful steps of progress:
Luis Martinez (Floating SD) – UNIVERSAL Certification! Luis previously held Core. This round, he not only passed all sections but also improved his previous scores. A huge accomplishment worthy of celebration.
Dusty Moss (MT at Notable & Quayle) — Passed Core, Type I, and Type II on his first attempt!
Michael Roberts (MT at Apex) — Added Type I to his certifications. Now holds Core, Type I, and Type II.
Breon Lalo (MT at Apex) — Passed Core. His focus and commitment continue to grow, and additional one-on-one support is already in the works for the next testing round for Type II.
Offering this training internally is not only impactful — it’s strategic. AAMD averages $450 per attendee for this same course. By running the program in-house, we had an estimated savings of $2,100 this round.
But beyond dollars saved, the true value lies in growing technical capability within our communities, building confidence and career pathways for our Service Teams and reinforcing Zocalo’s ongoing investment in learning and development. Every class grows stronger, and so do our teams.
