Our Story

What’s in a name? In this case, everything.

Originating from the Aztec culture, a Zocalo is a public plaza found in towns and cities throughout Latin America. These spaces serve as gathering places where people connect, celebrate, and build community.

Our name is a constant reminder of our mission: to build vibrant, inclusive, and equitable communities that bring people together and create lasting value for residents, neighborhoods, and stakeholders alike.

OUR HISTORY

Founded in 2006 and based in Denver, Colorado, Zocalo has developed more than 1,849 residential units representing over $280 million in development cost, with an additional 1,537 units in the pipeline. Throughout our growth, our commitment has remained the same: to create communities where people connect and thrive.

One example is our partnership with Warren Village, a Denver-based nonprofit that helps low-income single-parent families achieve personal and economic self-sufficiency through housing, education, and family support services.
